4-18 FM Mode Carrier Offset relative to CW mode
The FM Mode Carrier Offset relative to CW mode tests are as follows:
Ext Low Noise FM Mode Carrier Offset
Ext FM mode carrier offset will have an “after offset cal” spec and perhaps also a “before offset cal” spec. The
“after offset cal” sales spec is expected to be something like (0.2 % of Fdev s Nmod*1Hz). Data from the
tests in this section will be needed to determine specs.
Test Setup
,
but substitute a 50
Ω
BNC termination in place of
the External Waveform Generator.
FSWP:
Analog Demod mode / FM Time Domain
Demod BW 800 kHz Meas Time = 350 msec,
BW / AF Filter Config / Demod / Specifics for 1: FM Time Domain, AF Coupling = DC.
Trigger button:
Set “Free Run” as the trigger source.
External Function Generator:
Not used. Substitute 50
Ω
BNC termination.
MG362x1A:
Low Noise FM mode, Ext FM, DC Coupled, Ext FM Sensitivity = 2 MHz/V, FM On.
Test Procedure
1.
Wait 500 msec for FSWP to complete the measurement.
2.
Read “Carrier Offset” shown in the FSWP “Summary” window.
3.
Save result as “Ext FM Carrier Offset, Untrimmed, 2 MHz/V”.
4.
Set Everest Ext FM Sensitivity = 2 kHz/V
5.
Set FSWP Demod BW = 100 kHz
6.
Wait 500 msec for FSWP to complete the measurement.
7.
Read “Carrier Offset” shown in the FSWP “Summary” window.
8.
Save result as “Ext FM Carrier Offset, Untrimmed, 2 kHz/V”.
Perform Ext FM Offset Calibration to Minimize DC Offsets.
1.
Repeat steps 1 - 8 above, but saving results, respectively, as “Ext FM Carrier Offset, Trimmed, 2 MHz/V”,
and “Ext FM Carrier Offset, Trimmed, 2 kHz/V”.
2.
Skip this pass/fail indication step until a spec is published: If “Ext FM Carrier Offset, Trimmed,
2 MHz/V” is
≤
1.5 kHz and “Ext FM Carrier Offset, Trimmed, 2 kHz/V” is
≤
2.3Hz, record “Pass” for this
test, otherwise record “Fail”.
