Scan Settings
Range
The start and end points of the scan are set relative to a nominal
zero position at the mid-point of the motor’s range of movement.
The scan range is set in steps of 1 degree. The maximum range
is 90 degrees e.g. -45° to +45°, you can set the start and end
points to be anywhere within this range.
Mode
Extrusion
- This mode is used for aligning with extrusions
as they exit the press. It moves the actuator so that the
thermometer is targeted on the centre of the ‘hottest’ hot band of
temperatures in the profile.
When calculating the hottest band, the system takes into account
both the maximum temperature within the band and the width of
the band itself, therefore a wide section will be seen as ‘hotter’
than a narrow section of the same or similar temperature.
To be identified as an extrusion, a hot band must be wider
than the threshold width at the threshold percentage value of
maximum temperature.
Billet
- This mode is used for scanning billets prior to loading in
the press. It returns the actuator to the home position after the
hot object has left the measurement location, ready to measure
the next billet.
Hotspot
- This mode moves the actuator so that the
thermometer is targeted on the hottest point in the temperature
profile.
