Playing discs
• With some DVDs, certain operations
are disabled. Such operations are not
possible on such DVDs.
• The DVD functions described in this
manual are not supported by all
DVDs. See the individual DVDs
instructions for details on the features
supported.
• Fingerprints on a disc may adversely
affect playback. If a problem occurs,
remove the disc and check for
fingerprints on the playback side.
Clean the disc if necessary.
• When using the remote control, be
careful to press one button at time.
Pressing multiple buttons at the same
time may cause erroneous operation.
• Even if you switch the power or the
Ignition Key to OFF during playback or
change the source, playback will
continue from the point where it stopped
when the power is turned ON again.
If the magazine is removed or the disc
is changed, the play position memory
is released.
• Operation may not be accepted
depending on the type of disc and the
playback conditions. At such a time
the following mark is displayed on the
screen:
Caution
• If a menu screen appears
On DVDs and video CDs with playback control (PBC),
menu screens may appear automatically. If this happens,
perform the operation described below to start playback.
NOTE
For many discs, the menu screen can also be displayed
by pressing the MENU or TITLE button (for at least 2
seconds).
DVD menu
Use the Joystick to select the desired item, then
press the
ENT or

button.
NOTE
For some discs it is possible to select items directly from
the menu screen using the number keys (“0” to “9” and
“+10”).
Video CD menu
Use the number keys (“0” to “9” and “+10”) to
select the desired number.
NOTE
The menu screen does not appear when the PBC
function is turned off. If this is the case, press the
MENU button to turn on the PBC function.

• During play, the front panel indicators of this unit
flash.

Playing a video CD: The VIDEO CD indicator

Playing a CD: The AUDIO CD indicator flashes
• The reverse side of a double-sided DVD will not be
played automatically.
Remove the disc, turn it over, and reinsert it.
• For CDs, if repeat is OFF, there will be an automatic
changeover to the next disc after the disc finishes
playing.
• For DVD and video CD, discs will not be switched
even if repeat is OFF.
• For further information about repeat switching, see
“Chapter/track/title repeat playback” (on Page 16).
