18.2 Control system trouble shooting guide
The control system has inbuilt self diagnostic capabilities. If a problem occurs with
the controllers or its associated wiring the status light will flash. The right hand status
light signals the status of the land roll motor and controller. The left hand status light
signals the status of the cutting cylinder motor and controller.
The number of times the status light flashes between a long pause indicates the fault
which has occurred. The below table can be used to diagnose the fault codes. To
cancel intermittent fault codes switch the controller activation switch off and on again.
Table 3: ELMOW Flash codes
Flash
Description
Meaning
1
Battery low
The batteries are running low. Recharge batteries
2
Low battery fault
The batteries have run out of charge.
Recharge the batteries
Check the battery and associated connections
3
High battery fault
Battery voltage is too high. This may occur if
overcharged and or travelling down a long slope.
4
Current limit time-
out
The motor has been exceeding its maximum current
rating for too long. This may be due to a faulty motor.
Check the motor and associated connections and
wiring. Turn the controller off, leave for a few minutes
and turn back on again.
5
Park brake fault
Park brake may be faulty. Check the park brake and
associated wiring.
6
Throttle out of
neutral at power up
The throttle is out of neutral when turning the
controller on. Ensure the throttle is in neutral when
turning the controller on. The throttle may require re-
calibration
7
Throttle or speed
selection switch
fault
The throttle, speed selection switch or their associated
wiring may be faulty. Check the throttle, speed
selection switch associated wiring and connections.
8
Motor voltage fault
The motor or its associated wiring is faulty. Check the
motor and associated connections and wiring
9
Other error
The controller may have an internal fault.
Check all connections and wiring.
10
Push fault
The mower has exceeded the push speed limit.
Turn the controller off and then on again
The motors are equipped with a thermal cut out. If either motor stops during an
extended period of work, turn OFF (0) the relevant controller activation switch. Leave
the controller switched off for a period of several minutes. Restart the mower
following the normal starting procedure set out in this manual.
When starting on a considerable slope, especially in wet conditions this may overload
the motors. Similarly if the land roll or cylinder is obstructed in any way the motor
may exceed its maximum current limit. In such an instance turn the controller off,
leave for a few minutes and turn back on again. An indication of loading can be seen
on the Ammeter situated on the battery pack cover. Normal operation should see a
current draw of between 15-20Amps. When clearing a cylinder blockage or land roll
obstruction remove the battery isolation key before touching any hazardous part of
the mower. If there is no visible obstruction check the cylinder runs freely against the
bottom blade.
