6.11.6 Searching for leaks
A leak test is required every time after the vacuum system has been opened.
The leak test is required for the following reasons:
•
Air leaking into the system may impair the process and thus the product
quality
•
Hydrogen is used as a process gas. Air leaking into the system may lead
to the formation of an explosive gas mixture.
Proceed as follows to search for leaks:
1
Connect the inlet of the He leak detector to the vacuum system
2
Connect the outlet of the He leak detector to a suitable exhaust system
3
Perform a leak search as described in the OEM manual for the He leak
tester and according to the requirements of the SEMI standard
WARNING!
Hazardous gases.
The vacuum system may contain harmful or flammable gases. These
chemicals end up in the waste gas of the He leak detector. Inhalation of
toxic or caustic gases may impair your health and even lead to death.
Connect the outlet of the He leak detector to the exhaust system. Do not
release these gases into the open air.
