Connecting to the W2642A
You will need to configure the W2642A to enable connection from the Agilent test applications. To establish
communication between the W2642A and the automated test system, the W2642A must have an IP address and
a physical Ethernet connection between the W2642A and the PC host for the DisplayPort Test Controller
(W2642A GUI) or the Agilent Automated Test Instrumentation platform.

You can either connect to the W2642A over your LAN network, through a hub or you can connect directly. To
connect over the LAN you connect a standard Ethernet patch cable (not provided) between the Ethernet port on
the W2642A and a LAN access jack or Ethernet hub. To connect directly you connect the Ethernet crossover
cable (provided) between the Ethernet port on the W2642A and the PC host: either the Infiniium oscilloscope, or
the (W2642A GUI). These two connection methods are illustrated in the figures below. You can either connect to the W2642A over your LAN network, through a hub or you can connect directly. To

Note: If you are using a PC that is connected to a network that automatically assigns an IP address, and you will
be disconnecting from that network to connect to the crossover cable and generator, you must manually enter an
IP address into the Agilent Test System application or host PC so it can communicate with the generator. The
network portions of the IP addresses of the W2642A and the Agilent Test System application or host PC must
match.
