Pump this solution until the time has lapsed. The SIPS unit is
now ready for regular operation.
TIP
This procedure can be completed while waiting for the hollow cathode lamp and
burner to warm up and stabilize.
Check that the silicon rubber tubing connecting the T-piece to the
Mariotte vessel is secure at both ends and that there are no leaks. If
necessary, cut the ends of the tubing by a small amount to improve
the connection. When the tubing becomes too short, replace the
tubing.
Check that the pump tubes are securely fitted to the inlets on the T-
piece. Also check the connections between the silicone tubing and the
T-piece at the outlet (top of the T-piece) and those between the
silicone tubing and the nebulizer capillary to ensure all connections
are firm and there are no leaks. If necessary, cut the ends of the
tubing by a small amount to improve the connection. When the tubing
becomes too short, replace the tubing.
Inspect the pump tubing before each run. If it is badly stretched or
deformed when removed from the pump, or its cross section is
oval-shaped, the tubing must be replaced. To ultimately determine if
the tubing requires replacement, observe the accuracy and precision
obtained when a solution of known concentration is measured.
Check that the nebulizer uptake rate is correctly adjusted using the
procedure described in the ‘Nebulizer Setup’ section, Page 43. Check
that there is a small positive flow of diluent from the Mariotte vessel
when the SIPS is running at full speed.
To check the uptake rate:

Go to the
Optimize
page and select the appropriate option for
optimizing the signal.

Present a sample to SIPS and click the
Start SIPS/Pump
button.

Briefly disconnect the tubing connecting the Mariotte vessel to
the T-piece (at the Mariotte vessel) to introduce an air bubble
into the tube.
