Set the picture format (4:3PS, 4:3LB, 16:9)
Since the device supports different picture formats (aspect ratios), it may happen that the displayed picture does
not fill the whole screen or the edges of the screen are cut off. In such cases, you must set the correct picture
format (aspect ratio):
1. Whilst the disc is playing or after you have stopped play by pressing the STOP button, press the SETUP button
on the remote to open the Setup menu.
2. The first main menu GENERAL SETUP PAGE appears. If required select the first icon in the top menu bar and
press the PLAY/ENTER button, to display the menu items.
3. Using the Navigation button
▼
select the menu item TV DISPLAY.
4. Then press the Navigation button
►
, to display the available picture formats.
5. Using the Navigation button
▼
or
▲
select the required picture format. The following options are available:
• 4:3 PANSCAN: Select this Option, to set the picture so that it fills the whole screen. PAN&SCAN is a process
which will try to display part of a wide screen picture on a standard 4:3 television screen. Since the picture
can never be completely shown however, only the relevant section of the screen, for example, the actor who
is speaking is shown on the screen.
• 4:3 LETTERBOX: Select this Option, to set the picture so that it fills the whole screen. The picture proportions
are retained and the picture is shrunk until the width of the picture fits a standard 4:3 television screen.
When the wide screen is displayed, a black strip appears on the left and right hand edge of the screen.
• 16:9 WIDE: Select this option if you have connected the device to a wide screen television (Wide Screen). If
you select this option for a normal television, the picture is distorted due to the vertical compression.
6. The
n
press the PLAY/ENTER button to confirm the selection.
7. Press the SETUP button again to close the Setup menu.
Notes:
• The picture format depends on the respective DVD disc. Some discs cannot be played in the default picture
format.
• If you play a disc which has been recorded in 4:3 format, on a wide screen television (16:9), a black strip ap

pears on the left and right hand edge of the screen.
• The picture format should be adjusted to match that of the connected television.
