Incorrect Correct
Figure 5.1: Proper Pipette Tip Position
• Visually inspect samples in the sample tube to assure the absence of air bubbles. Air
bubbles may produce erroneous results. If an air bubble is observed, discard the sample
tube and dispense a new sample into a clean sample tube.
• Keep all samples covered whenever possible to minimize evaporation or contamination
of the sample.
• Avoid using the instrument in a drafty area.
• Dispense samples quickly and test as soon as possible after loading the turntable to
mitigate evaporation of the sample. Dry, low humidity conditions will cause pipetted
samples to evaporate, which will cause an elevated osmolality reading. If testing in dry,
low humidity conditions, limit the number of samples in a turntable to minimize the time a
pipetted sample is waiting to be tested.
• Use only the Advanced Instruments sample tubes.
• Never re-run a previously tested sample tube. Dispense a new aliquot of the sample to
be rerun into a new sample tube.
• Never reuse probe wiper rings. They are designed to be single use only.
• Keep the sample cooling chamber clean with cleaning swab periodically (every 10-20
test series or two weeks). Never inject anything directly into the chamber.
• Calibrate the pipette used for dispensing test volumes into sample tubes.
5.4 Verifying
c
alibration daily
Verify the accuracy of the OsmoPRO using Advanced Instruments references and controls
daily. Compare the test results produced by the instrument to the expected values provided with
the particular control. Recalibration of the instrument may be required if test results are outside
of the expected ranges of the references and controls.
NOTE:
We recommend using Clinitrol 290 Reference Solution, Protinol Protein-Based Controls,
and Renol Urine Osmolality Controls.
