Probe Alignment Tool Instructions
For Models 3250, 3900, 3D3, 4250, and 4D3

Reference: Use this instruction with part
3LA700.
Tools Needed:
Phillips screwdriver, flat-
bladed screwdriver, 1/16”
Allen wrench.
CAUTION: Improper connections may
cause damage to the instrument.
Proper alignment and adjustment of the man-
drel, probe and stir/freeze wire are of utmost
importance to assure accuracy, precision and
proper operation of the instrument.
Use the probe alignment tool to precisely cen-
ter the probe and position the stir-freeze wire
according to factory specifications.
Instruction:
1. Slide the tool squarely up onto the man-
drel, round end first, with the stir/freeze
wire located as shown in the drawings
below.
Note: For 4250 or 4D3 cryoscopes, the
alignment tool must be rotated 90º
from its position with osmometers.
2. Align the probe, as follows:
If aligning a metal probe, bend the metal
probe stem gently by hand, as necessary,
to align the probe along the RAISED V
CENTERLINE of the probe alignment
tool.
If aligning a non-metallic probe, rotate
the probe so that any curvature in the
probe is in the back-to-front direction
(parallel to the stir wire action).
3. With the alignment tool squarely up on
the mandrel, the bottom of the probe
should be even with LEVEL B, as shown
in the drawing.
