Console Commands

The following possibilities for settings are available to the user
“root“ via the local serial connection “CONSOLE” on the rear side
of the A850 (Fig. 3) as well as via remote connection (network or
modem connection):
• set the system time,
• reboot the Gateway,
Note: there is no difference between reboot and halt - if the AC
power is on, the Gateway will reboot after 8 seconds
because of the watchdog reset, and if the AC power is off,
the Gateway will turn itself off on reboot/reset.
• drop out to a command shell.
The following possibilities for settings are available to all users
(e.g., “root“, “adv” or “yourname”) via the local serial connection
“CONSOLE” on the rear side of the A850 (Fig. 3) as well as via
remote connection (network or modem connection):
• display licensing information,
• display debugging information,
• request a callback (only if there is a valid configuration),
Note: The configuration capabilities of the setup program only
allow to generate a basic configuration with standard set-
tings. Further configuration is done using the GUI.
Establishing Console Connection
For establishing the fundamental configuration of the A850, the
A850 has to be connected to the serial interface of a PC. For that
purpose, a serial RS232 cable has to be connected to the "CON-
SOLE" connection of the A850 (Fig. 3) and to the connection for
the serial interface of the PC (usually designated as port "COM” or
“COM1”).
First, ensure the power supply of the Gateway by connecting the
mains plug to an AC source; the LED PWR must light to show that
AC is present.
Note: it is also possible to operate the gateway using only its bat-
tery. However, in this case, the gateway should only be used
