Glossary

hot-swap

To remove a component from a system and install a new
component while the power is on and the system is running.

initialized array

An array which is ready for data read and writes.

legacy disk

Definition to be provided.

Logical Unit Number

See

LUN.

low-level format

A low-level format completely cleans any data off of the drive.

logical device

A device which does not exist until configured by Adaptec
CI/O Management Software.

LUN

Stands for

Logical Unit Number

. The number assigned to a sub-

device (logical unit) of a SCSI target. Each SCSI target can
contain up to eight subdevices numbered 0 through 7; however,
most SCSI devices contain only one subdevice (LUN 0).

metadata

The location information for the user data that is indexed and
stored by the file system.

MIB

Stands for Management Information Base. Contains the
language definition, location of information, and commands
for an entity managed by SNMP.
