Implementing the Emergency stop function
For safety reasons, install the emergency stop devices at each operator control station
and at other operating stations where emergency stop may be needed. You can implement
the emergency stop function using the Safe torque off function of the drive module (see
chapter
Safe torque off function on page 153 ). Design the emergency stop according to
relevant standards.
Note: Pressing the stop key on the control panel of the drive does not generate an
emergency stop of the motor or separate the drive from dangerous potential.

Implementing the ATEX-certified Safe motor
disconnection function (Q971)
With Q971, the drive provides ATEX-certified safe motor disconnection without
contactor using the drive Safe torque off function. For more information,

Implementing safety functions provided by the FSO
safety functions module (oQ972 and +Q973)
The drive can be equipped with an FSO-xx safety functions module (Q971 or
+Q973) which enables the implementation of functions such as Safe brake control (SBC),
Safe stop 1 (SS1), Safe stop emergency (SSE), Safely limited speed (SLS) and Safe
maximum speed (SMS).
The settings of the FSO module are at default when delivered from the factory. The wiring
of the safety circuit and configuration of the FSO module are the responsibility of the
machine builder.
The FSO module reserves the standard Safe torque off (STO) connection of the drive
control unit. STO can still be utilized by other safety circuits through the FSO.
