If DHCP is enabled, the BluStar 8000i requests the following network information:
•
Subnet Mask
•
Gateway (i.e. router)
•
Domain Name Server (DNS)
•
Network Time Protocol Server
•
IP Address
•
TFTP Server
•
TFTP Path
•
FTP Server
•
FTP Path
•
HTTP Server
•
HTTP Path
•
HTTP Port
•
HTTPS Server
•
HTTPS Path
•
HTTPS Port
The network administrator chooses which of these parameters (if any) are supplied to the BluStar 8000i by the DHCP
server. The administrator must configure the BluStar 8000i manually to provide any required network parameters not
supplied by the DHCP server.
To Enable/Disable DHCP:
Use the following procedure to enable/disable DHCP on the BluStar 8000i using the configuration files.
DHCP Options 66, 60, and 43 Server Configuration
Option 66
The BluStar 8000i supports download protocols according to RFC2131 and RFC1541 (TFTP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS) to support
DHCP option 66. Option 66 is part of the DHCP offer message that the DHCP server generates to tell the BluStar 8000i
which configuration server it should use to download new firmware and configuration files.
For DHCP to automatically populate the IP address or domain name for the servers, your DHCP server must support
Option 66. Option 66 is responsible for forwarding the server’s IP address or domain name to the BluStar 8000i automat-
ically. If your DHCP server does not support Option 66, you must manually enter the IP address or domain name for your
applicable configuration server into your BluStar 8000i configuration.
Option 60 and 43
The BluStar 8000i also supports Option 60 and Option 43 as per RFC 2132.
Option 60 (Vendor Class Identifier) provides the DHCP server with a unique identifier for each BluStar model. This ena-
bles a system administrator to send the BluStar 8000i a customized server configuration in Option 43.
Note:
For DHCP to automatically populate the IP address or domain name for the TFTP, FTP, HTTP, or HTTPS configuration
servers, your DHCP server must support download protocols according to RFC2131 and RFC1541 for Options 43,160,
159, and 66.
