3.5. Standard Electrode Placement (IEC)
For ECG cable lead sets with IEC (Europe) lead designations, position the
electrodes as shown in the following diagram:
Note
– If using a three-wire ECG cable lead set, you only need to apply the R, L and F
electrodes, and only Lead II will be available.

Position the right arm (R) electrode on the right mid-clavicular line,
directly below the clavicle.
2.
Position the left arm (L) electrode on the left mid-clavicular line, directly
below the clavicle.

Position the neutral (N) electrode on the right mid-clavicular line, 6

and
7
th
intercostal space (5-lead cable only).
4.
Position the left leg (F) electrode on the left mid-clavicular line, 6
th
and 7
th
intercostal space.
5.
Position the chest (C) electrode on the 4
th
intercostal space, left sternal
border (5-lead cable only).
