Periodic Maintenance Procedures
NOTICE
•ALWAYS be environmentally
responsible.
• Follow the guidelines of the EPA or other
governmental agencies for the proper disposal of
hazardous materials such as engine oil, diesel
fuel and engine coolant. Consult the local
authorities or reclamation facility.
• NEVER dispose of hazardous materials
irresponsibly by dumping them into a sewer, on
the ground, or into ground water or waterways.
• Failure to follow these procedures may seriously
harm the environment.
Replace the fuel filter at specified intervals to
prevent contaminants from adversely affecting the
diesel fuel flow.
1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool.
2. Close the fuel cock of the fuel filter / water
separator.
3. Turn the retaining ring
(Figure 5-14, (1))
to the
left
(Figure 5-14, (2))
.

4. Carefully remove the cup
(Figure 5-14, (3))
and
pour the fuel into an approved container and
dispose of waste properly. Hold the bottom of
the cup with a shop towel to prevent the fuel
from dripping. Wipe up any spills immediately.
5. Remove the element
(Figure 5-14, (4))
by
pulling it down.
6. Replace the element with a new one.
7. Wash the inside of the cup with clean fuel.
8. Check the condition of the cup O-ring
(Figure 5-14, (6))
. Replace if necessary.
9. Reinstall the cup to the mounting flange and
turn the retaining ring
(Figure 5-14, (1))
to the
right
(Figure 5-14, (2))
. Hand-tighten only.
10. Open the fuel cock of the fuel filter / water
separator.
11. Prime the fuel system.
12. Check for fuel leaks.
