Initial Issue
Status Indicator RAPs
010-705 Faulty Exchange Solenoid RAP
The Exchange Solenoid failed to operate correctly causing an error message or a Fault Code
to be displayed.
Initial Actions
NOTE: The resistance value of the Exchange Solenoid should measure approximately 45-50
ohms from the center (Blue) wire to either of the other two wires. The resistance value mea-
sured from the Red wire to the White wire should be approximately 90-95 ohms.
Procedure
CAUTION
Do not select more than one (1) Diagnostic Code at a time or damage to the solenoid will
occur.
Manually place the Exchange Chute in the DOWN position so that paper will be directed to the
Top Exit Tray (Solenoid in PUSH position). Access the Digital Output (DO) test from the Control
Panel. Enter code [18]. Press the Item/Enter button. The Exchange Solenoid pulls- in or
attempts to pull-in (the Exchange Chute makes an audible sound as it moves or
attempts to move).

Remove the Fuser Assembly REP 10.1. Check the resistance between J71-B4 and J71-
B10. The resistance is between 45 and 50 ohms.
Y
N
Go to Flag 4. Check for an open circuit. Repair or replace the Fuser Harness (PL
8.5) as required. If the wiring is OK, replace the Exchange Solenoid Assembly (PL
8.5)
Go to Flag 3 and Flag 5. Check for an open circuit. Repair or replace the Main Harness
(PL 11.1) as required. If the wiring is OK, replace the MCU PWB (PL 11.2).
Enter [Stop DO Test] from the Control Panel. Enter code [18]. Press the Item/Enter button.
Select [DO-17] and press the Item/Enter button. The Exchange Solenoid pushes-out or
attempts to push-out (the Exchange Chute makes an audible sound as it moves or
attempts to move).

Remove the Fuser Assembly REP 10.1. Check the resistance between J71-B8 and J71-
B9. The resistance is between 45 and 50 ohms.
Y
N
Go to Flag 2. Check for an open circuit. Repair or replace the Fuser Harness (PL
8.5) as required. If the wiring is OK, replace the Exchange Solenoid Assembly (PL
8.5).
Go to Flag 1. Check for an open circuit. Repair or replace the Main Harness (PL 11.1) as
required. If the wiring is OK, replace the MCU PWB (PL 11.2).
The problem may be intermittent. Go to Figure 1. Check for loose or damaged connections or
damaged wires. Also check for continuity. If the wiring is OK, replace the Exchange Solenoid
Assembly (PL 8.5). If the problem continues, replace the MCU PWB (PL 11.2).
