5.4.3 Stationary dry well installation
Abb. 4:
Vertical dry well installation
Abb. 5:
Horizontal dry well installation
In this installation type, the operating space is divided.
The fluid is collected in the collector tank and the
product is installed in the machine room. The operating
space must be blocked out as per the manufacturer's
configuration.
The product is installed at the specified point in the
machine room and connected to the pipe system on
the suction and pressure side. The product itself is not
immersed in the fluid. The suction- and pressure-side
pipe system must be self-supporting, i.e. it may not be
supported by the product. In addition, product con-
nection to the pipe system must be free of stress and
vibrations. We recommend use of elastic compensa-
tors.
5.5 Dry-running protection
Make sure that no air enters the hydraulics housing.
The pump must therefore always be immersed in the
fluid up to the top edge of the hydraulic housing. For
optimum operational reliability, we recommend instal-
ling a dry-running protection system.
Correct running is ensured by float switches or level
sensors. The float switch or sensor is fixed in the pump
chamber and switches off the pump when the water
level falls below the minimum water submersion. If dry-
running protection is put into effect with only one
floater when fill levels fluctuate significantly, then the
pump may turn on and off constantly! This can result in
the maximum number of motor activations (switching
cycles) being exceeded.
5.5.1 Remedies for avoiding excessive switching cycles
• Manual reset
The motor is switched off when the water level falls
below the minimum coverage level and switched back
on when a sufficient water level is reached.
• Separate reactivation point
A second switching point (additional floater or elec-
trode) is used to obtain a sufficient difference between
the deactivation and activation points. This prevents
constant switching. This function can be put into effect
with a level control relay.
5.6 Electrical connection
• The mains connection current and voltage must be as
stated on the rating plate.
• Connect the power supply cable in accordance with the
applicable standards and regulations and according to
the conductor assignment.
• Any available monitoring equipment, e.g. for thermal
motor monitoring, must be connected and tested to
ensure that it is working properly.
• For three-phase AC motors, a clockwise rotating field
must be available.
• Earth the device properly.
Devices that are permanently installed must be
grounded in compliance with nationally applicable
Beware of burns!
The housing parts can heat up to well above
40 °C. There is a risk of burns! After switching it
off, let the device cool down to ambient tempe-
rature.
Beware of damage to the threaded bushes!
Excessively long screws and different flanges
lead to tearing of the threaded bushes.
Therefore, please pay attention:
Only use threaded bolts M16 with max. length of
12…16 mm.
Max. tightening torque is 50 Nm.
Only use flange in accordance with DIN 2576
type B (without sealing strip).
This requirement is guaranteed with the use of
Wilo accessories.

Risk of death due to electrocution!
Improper electrical connections can lead to fatal
electric shocks. Electrical connections may only
be carried out by a qualified electrician approved
by the local energy supply company, in accor-
dance with locally applicable regulations.
