Fuel Tank Removal / Installation
7. Place the handlebars in the straight ahead position.
NOTICE: DO NOT rest the fuel tank on the frame while removing it.
Fuel pump fitting damage can occur.
8. Lift the rear of the tank to locate the fuel pump electrical
connector. Disconnect the connector by lifting the tab
slightly.
9. With the rear of the tank lifted, also disconnect the fuel line
from the fuel pump by squeezing both release buttons
simultaneously. Glently slide the fitting from the fuel
pump.
10. Lift the rear of the fuel tank as high as clearance at the front
of the tank will allow to ensure adequate clearance for the
fuel line fitting under the tank.
11. With the rear of the fuel tank raised, carefully slide the tank
rearward and off the front mounts.
12. When the tank is clear of the front mounts, lift the tank up and away from the frame. Be
prepared to catch dripping fuel in an appropriate container.
13. To reinstall the fuel tank, reverse the removal
steps, routing the fuel line along the right edge
directly to the fuel rail.
NOTICE: The 90-degree fuel pump fitting can be
damaged if improperly installed.The fitting must
point toward the rear of the bike when installing
the tank. If the tank does not align with the rear
frame mounts, do not force it into position.
Verify the orientation of this fitting.
14. Install the grommets and bushings in each rear
mount and install the bolts. If necessary, use
soapy water or rubber lubricant to lubricate the
grommets. Tighten the bolts.
Torque: 18 ft-lbs (24.4 Nm)
15. Connect the vent and drain hoses, then connect
the fuel line at the fuel rail. Listen for a click to
ensure the line is secured properly.
16. Install the ground wire connection and screw.
Torque: 8 ft-lbs (11 Nm)
17. Prime the fuel pump. See page 45.
18. Check for leaks.
19. Reinstall the access cover, side covers and seat.
