6.9.9

NCP Address

The serial interface for the ’Modem’-port can be configured to RS485 mode in order
to control several NetCam units from a single system controller. The controller differ-
entiates the units by a unique address, given to each unit. See also the figure shown
in the context of discussing the serial interfaces in section 3.3.8 on page 26.

Make sure to use each configured address only once for all units connected to the
same bus.

6.9.10 Version Information

Version information includes a version number for the hardware and the firmware of
the respective unit. The hardware number consists of a code for the particular model,
a unique hardware serial number and a revision number. The firmware number re-
flects the current firmware revision. For the depicted example, firmware revision is
4.03.

Whenever calling the manufacturer for technical support, provide these two version
numbers.

6.9.11 Modem Initialization

Certain modems require settings which differ from the factory defaults, as has been
explained already in section 6.2.1 on page 44. Required initialization strings may be
stored inside the NetCam unit to be used each time the modem is initialized.

Initialization strings are entered without the leading ’AT’ command prefix, which is
added by NetCam. Configuring the string ’L1’, for example, will set speaker volume to
the value 1.

Whenever the modem initialization string is changed, the modem is reconfigured us-
ing the latest string. Therefore even more complex settings can be carried out this
way. However, no responses from the connected modem are displayed. The main in-
tention for the present feature are small adaptations of the modem configuration
which are not permanently stored inside the modem parameter set.
