Side airbags

The side airbag system is identified by the
word
AIRBAG
on the outboard sides of the
front seat backrests.
The side airbag system comprises:
z
an airbag with inflator in the back of the
driver’s and front passenger’s seat
respectively,
z
the control electronics,
z
the side-impact sensors,
z
the control indicator for airbag
systems
v
in the instrument cluster,
z
the system for deactivating the front and
side airbags for the front passenger’s
seat,
z
the control indicator
*
for deactivated
front passenger’s airbag systems.
The side airbag system will be triggered:
z
depending on the severity of the
accident,
z
depending on the type of impact,
z
within the range shown in the illustration
on the centre door pillar of the driver’s or
front passenger’s side,
z
independently of the front airbag
system.
Exception:
The front and side airbags for the front
passenger’s seat were deactivated
because a child restraint system is
mounted on the front passenger’s seat.

Warning
Seat belts must always be worn. The front
airbag system serves to supplement the
three-point seat belts. If you do not wear
your seat belt you risk being seriously
injured, or even thrown from the vehicle,
in the event of an accident.
In the event of an accident the seat belt
helps to keep you in the correct seating
position, so that the front airbag system
can provide you with effective protection.
