SYSTEM LIMITATIONS (Continued)
Obstruction Allowances (Continued)
Obstructions that eclipse the discharge path may obstruct
up to 42% of the discharge path, and must be 3 in. (7.6 cm)
or more from the centerline of the discharge path. See
Figure 4.
FIGURE 4
008255
An atomizer may be more than 42% obstructed if the
obstruction is not closer than 9 ft 10 in. (3.0 m) away,
provided the following conditions are met:
• Not more than 25% of the number of atomizers may be
more than 42% obstructed.
• Total obstruction of all atomizers cannot exceed 42% of
the total atomizer discharge area.
Obstructions may have either flat surfaces or curved
surfaces that are convex, but may not consist of a surface
or group of surfaces that form a gutter or channel that
would capture the flow of atomized water droplets. See
Figure 5.
FIGURE 5

Obstructions that are parallel to the direction of discharge,
such as a post, beam, or pipe may not be closer than 1 ft
(30 cm) from the centerline of the discharge path. See
Figure 6.
