5 CALIBRATION
This section includes cell condition and fluorescence calibration procedures.
5.1 CELL CONDITION CALIBRATION PROCEDURE
The TD1000C™ requires a site-specific Cell Condition Calibration before placing the system online.
The procedure detailed below should be used during initial start-up and periodic Cell Condition
calibration requirements of the installation.
All calibration steps must be completed for changes to be registered!
Refer to Figures 1 through 5 for locations of items. A diagram of display screens is located in
Appendix
F
.
STEP 1
Close the flow cell inlet valve. The valve is closed when the yellow valve handle is oriented horizontally.
Shift the flow-cell outlet valve to the drain position. The valve is correctly positioned when the green
valve handle is orientated horizontally.
If your instrument has PVC wetted parts, position the inlet valve handle horizontally and the outlet valve
in the drain position, with the end of the valve handle pointed up. See Appendix K.
STEP 2
Clean the monitor by injecting cleaning solution with a syringe into the flow cell. The syringe screws
onto the Luer-lock fitting on the inlet of the flow cell (see
Figure 1
). Fill syringe with 60 mL of cleaning
solution. Screw syringe onto fitting. Inject cleaning solution at a slow, steady rate into flow cell and
allow it to remain there for 3–5 minutes. Use a clean 60 mL syringe to flush flow cell thoroughly with 60
mL of blank solution.
Never clean the flow cell with, or expose it to, partially chlorinated solvents or caustic solutions.
A syringe is provided in the TD1000C™ Calibration Accessory Kit (Turner Designs Hydrocarbon
Instruments Part No 101665).
STEP 3
Open the flow cell inlet valve. The valve is open when the yellow valve handle is oriented vertically.
Shift the flow cell outlet valve to the process flow position. The outlet valve is correctly positioned when
the green handle is oriented vertically.
If your instrument has PVC wetted parts, position the inlet valve handle vertically and the outlet valve in
the process position, with the end of the valve handle pointed down. See Appendix K.
