The edge fi nder and the zero setter simulate an open electric
circuit. This means that, as soon as there is contact between
the tester and the machine via a workpiece or tool, the cir-
cuit is closed. At this moment, a probing signal is sent to the
receiver. This receiver is connected to the machine control.
The cycles integrated in the machine control process this si-
gnal.
Because of the principle of the open electrical circuit, it is
only possible to probe electrically conductive materials.
