Introduction to the Access
Control Workstation
The ACW provides the Workers’ interface to the Dose Control
System. For this, it can operate in one (or more) of the
following modes:
Note: The “Access Control Workstation” (or ACW) is strictly
the software that runs on the “Access Control Terminal” (or
ACT) hardware, but the terms are often used interchangeably.
Entry Mode

), controls entry to the Radiologically Controlled
Area. It checks that the worker has enough Dose in
Hand for the Task they are to do, sets up the Alarm
Thresholds in their EPD and records the start of their
visit to the RCA.

Exit Mode

), which checks workers leaving the RCA. It records
the Doses measured by the EPD and completes the
record of the visit, and clears the EPD memory ready
for it to be used again.

Transfer Mode
