OPERATION

3.4 SEQUENCE OF OPERATION (continued)

Read and follow all safety precautions on page 22 and at the front
of this manual before proceeding with operation.

WARNING

Shielded Metal Arc

Welding (SMAW)

WARNING

Install and connect unit PROPERLY.

Wear dry insulating gloves and clothing.

Connect work clamp to clean, bare metal at workpiece.

Select proper electrode and insert into electrode holder.

Place PROCESS SELECTOR switch in Shielded Metal Arc
Welding position.

Place OUTPUT CONTACTOR switch in ON position.

SELECT AC OR DC OPERATION.

If remote amperage control is not used, place the AMPER-
AGE Control switch in the PANEL position. If remote
amperage control is to be used, place the AMPERAGE
Control switch in the REMOTE 14 position.

Rotate AMPERAGE control, or remoted amperage control, if
applicable, to desired position (see Section 3).

10. Rotate ARC CONTROL to desired position (see Section 3).
11. Wear welding helmet with proper filter lens according to

ANSI Z49.1.

12. Place POWER switch in ON position.
13. Begin welding.

SHUTTING DOWN

Stop welding.

Place the POWER switch in the OFF position.

Turn off the shielding gas and water supplies, if applicable.

HIGH CONCENTRATION OF SHIELDING GAS can harm
health or kill. Shut off gas supply when not in use.
