Remove the engine oil dipstick (fig.35 ref. 1), and
wipe it clean if required, reinsert it in its seat and
then pull it out again to obtain an accurate read-
ing of the level of lubricant.
If the oil level does not reach the top notch on the
dipstick (fig.36) restore the level by pouring oil
through the special opening after removing the
cap (fig.35 ref. 2). (You may want to refer to the
engine user and maintenance manual.)
To restore the oil level use lubricant of the same
type as that already present in the engine.
At the end of operation make sure that the filler
cap and dipstick have been correctly replaced.
Do not pour oil to exceed the maxi-
mum level indicated on the dipstick.
9.3 Maintenance operations to be carried out
by skilled personnel
9.3.1 Engine oil replacement
•
Hot oil can scald.
•
Operating the generating set with a low
level of lubricant would severely damage
the engine.
To make it easier to drain the spent engine oil, it
is advisable to let the engine run for approxi-
mately 3 minutes; in this way, the oil will be more
fluid and emptying will be quicker and more thor-
ough.
The drain plug for emptying the oil sump is lo-
cated on the generator underside (fig.37 ref. 1).
Remove the oil filler cap (fig.35 ref. 2).
Remove the rubber guard (fig.37 ref. 2) on the
generator bottom. Then remove the drain plug
and drain all the oil into a container suitable for
collection of spent lubricant.
After emptying, screw the drain plug back in and
restore the lubricant level through the special
filler (fig.35 ref. 2) by checking the level with the
dipstick (fig.35 ref. 1), (fig.36). Fill the oil sump
with approximately 0.95 litres of oil.
Use multigrade type oil for diesel engines with a
SAE viscosity degree suitable for the local cli-
mate according to the table.
Spent oil should not be disposed
freely in the environment but taken to special
disposal centres carrying out disposal and/or
recycling in compliance with the applicable
law provisions in force in the country of use.
