3 – Preparation
Preparing an SD card for use
In order to use an SD card in this unit, you must format it first.
1. Confirm that an SD card is installed and turn the power ON.
2. The following message appears when a new card or a card
formatted for use with another device is installed in the unit.
SD/SDHC card
SDXC card
3. Press the DATA dial to start formatting.
CAUTION
Formatting a card erases all the data on it.
4. When formatting ends, the Home Screen opens. You can
also reformat the card in this unit at any time.
CAUTION
When formatting a card, the unit should be operating on
AC power supplied through the TASCAM PS-P515U adapter
(sold separately), USB bus power supplied from a computer,
or batteries with sufficient remaining power.
Camera connections
This unit and a camera can be connected in the following ways.
DSLR camera
External mic input jack
Audio output jack
HDMI output jack
HDMI monitor
HDMI input jack

To record audio from this unit with a camera
Use a commercially-available 3.5mm stereo mini plug cable to
connect the OUT jack on the right side of this unit with the
external mic input on the camera.

To input audio from a camera and monitor it with
headphones
Use a commercially-available 3.5mm stereo mini plug cable
to connect the IN jack on the right side of this unit with the
audio output on the camera.

HDMI connection to a camera
The unit can be synchronized with the camera's clock by
connecting the camera's HDMI output to the unit's HDMI IN
port. Moreover, HDMI time code can be received from the
camera.

Connecting with an HDMI monitor/recorder
Video input from the camera by HDMI can have audio recorded
by this unit added to it and then be output from the HDMI OUT
port. The received HDMI time code can also be output.
