Starting the VIPER on an Ethernet network
If you will be using the VIPER on an Ethernet network,
you will need to:
1. Contact the person responsible for your computer network
(the Network Administrator) to obtain the following applica-
ble information:
• Ahost name that does not duplicate an existing host name
• An IP address (or use DHCP which provides automatic
IP address resolution)
• An optional Network Information Service (NIS) domain
name
• Auser account and password if using NIS
• An Ethernet cable
• Aconnection to the desired Ethernet network
• DNS Domain
• IPAddress of DNS Nameserver
• IPAddress of Gateway Router
2. Connect the Ethernet cable to the Gigabit Ethernet connec-
tor.
3. Make sure that all cables attached to peripherals (such as
printers, mouse and monitor) are securely plugged into the
correct connectors.
4. Make certain that each device is plugged into an AC outlet
or power strip, if necessary.
5. Power on all attached peripherals.
6. Use the VIPER 's power switch to turn on your notebook.
