Procedures
Considerations
The vial, filling medium, and sample assembly
together make up a large thermal mass. There-
fore, it is recommended that a slow heating rate
be used to allow the sample to maintain the
heating rate as sensed by the sample thermo-
couple. When creating a method, use a Ramp
segment of 3 to 5
o
C/min or less for your heating
rate.
If you compare data runs, make sure that all
comparison scans are made with the vial filled
to the same level with filling medium, with the
thermocouple in the same position, and heated
at the same rate.
Accessory
Installation
The dilatometer accessory uses the dilatometer
probe, dilatometer sample vial, and the standard
stage.
1. Remove the existing probe as instructed on
page 2-18.
2. Install the standard stage, if it is not already
in place. (For instructions on installing the
stage, refer to page 2-13).
3. Insert the core end of the dilatometer probe
carefully into the opening in the stage.
