Chapter 2. Installing the
Adapter
DANGER!
Electric current from power, telephone, and communications cables is hazardous.
To avoid the risk of an electric shock,
➔
do not connect or disconnect any cables or perform any installation, maintenance or
reconfiguration work during an electrical storm.
➔
the power cord of the computer must be connected to a properly wired and grounded
(earthed) receptacle. Any equipment attached to this product must also be properly
wired and connected to grounded receptacles.
➔
do not connect this product to a telephone line.
You require the following material:
•
A 150-Ohm Lobe cable IBM type 6, 2 or 1 with Sub Min D9 plugs or
•
A 100-Ohm Category-5 (UTP, SUTP, STP(100Ohm) or IBM type3) cable with RJ-45
plugs.
1. Connect the RJ-45 or Sub Min D9 plug to the corresponding jack on the adapter.
2. Connect the RJ_45 or Sub Min D9 plug on the end of the cable that is still free to the jack
in your inhouse cabling system or the MAU.
The figure below illustrates how the computer (adapter) is connected to an MAU via an RJ-45
plug.
