SYMPTOM
PROBABLE CAUSE

Compressor Short Cycles
(cont.)
d. Lack of refrigerant.
Check for leak. Repair and
recharge system.
e. Short circuiting of conditioned air.
1. Supply and/or return grilles are
incorrectly oriented. Reorient
grilles.
2. Supply and return grilles are too
close together. Move further apart.
3. Insufficient heat load. Add
temporary heat load to compensate.
f. Return temperature sensor
is improperly located.
Check for supply registers that may
be too close to the return
temperature sensor. Relocate sensor
if necessary.
Water- Water/Glycol Valve
a. Temperature set point too high or
Adjust temperature setting.
Fails to Open or Close
too low.
b. No control power to the valve.
Valve actuator wiring is faulty.
Check wiring against schematic
and rewire if necessary.
c. Actuator failed.
Replace actuator.
Electric Heater
Inoperable
a. Circuit breaker tripped.
b. Temperature set point too low.
c. Overheat switch open.
d. Manual reset overheat
safety switch tripped.
e. Heater element burned out.
Check for short circuit; reset circuit
breaker.
Increase temperature set point.
Insufficient air flow across
heater elements. Check for
dirty filters
or obstructions that may reduce
air flow. Correct or replace as
needed.
Reset manual overheat safety
switch (see item immediately
above).
Check continuity with an
ohmmeter Replace heater
element.
Hot Water Heater
Inoperable
a. Low hot water flow.
b. Hot water supply temperature
too low
c. Temperature set point too low
d. Control power interrupted
Check hot water flow at supply source.
Inspect piping for leaks or obstructions.
Check hot water supply
Increase temperature set point
Check for loose or broken
wires
