Use this switch to toggle between playback and
recording modes.
CAMERA: Set the switch at this position to take a
picture.
PLAY: Set the switch at this position to view the images
stored in memory.

MONITOR (PAL) switch (46)
When a video cable is connected to the VIDEO OUT
jack and VIDEO OUT of the menu is set to PAL, this
switch is enabled. Select which you use for monitoring
a picture, the LCD or video monitor.
LCD: For viewing the picture on the LCD
VIDEO OUT: For viewing the picture on the video
monitor
When VIDEO OUT is set to NTSC, you can monitor a
picture both on the LCD and a video monitor.
J
Liquid-crystal display (LCD)
When the PLAY/CAMERA switch is set to CAMERA,
the scene picked up by the lens appears.
When the PLAY/CAMERA switch is set to PLAY, the
picture stored in memory appears.
When the camera is connected to a computer using the
USB cable, a picture disappears on the LCD and USB
CONNECTED appears.
K
When the PLAY/CAMERA switch is set to PLAY, press
to select a picture.
In MENU operation, press to select a menu item and to
settle the selection.
L
Press to display the Menu display. Press it again to
disappear the Menu or layout display.
M
Standby lamp (17)
The lamp is lit or flashing to indicate the following
conditions.
When the PLAY/CAMERA switch is set to
CAMERA
Flashing in red: Preparing for shooting, charging the
flash, storing the data (shooting is disabled).
Quickly flashing in red: No battery power remains.
Lit in red: Memory full (when AUTO ERASE is set to
OFF)
Flashing in green: Standby for shooting (manual
setting for exposure, aperture or white balance)
Lit in green: Standby for shooting (automatic settings)
When the PLAY/CAMERA switch is set to PLAY
Lit in red: Some trouble has occurred. Contact your
Sony service facility or your Sony dealer.
Flashing in green: Memory full
Quickly flashing in green: No battery power remains.
Lit in green: Normal operation
N
Viewfinder
You can see the subject through the viewfinder and can
shoot a picture without using the LCD monitor.
Use the viewfinder to check the subject. The picture seen
through the viewfinder does not reflect the framing
correctly.
