5.1.4 Checking the direction during your trip
You will want to check the direction during your trip and that is easily and quickly done by pressing and holding the
COMPASS-button when the Multi-Navigator
TM
is shut off. This will instantly activate the compass function. Hold the
Multi-Navigator
TM
horizontally in front of you and point it in the direction of the lake and spot a landmark in that
direction. Continue your trip.
Note!
When using the instant compass function (without having the Multi-Navigator
TM
switched on) the direction
and distance to the waypoint (LAKE) will valid as at the last time the GPS receiver was on and calculated a position
i.e. in this example at the car. Remember that to get correct information based upon your current position you need
to start the GPS receiver. More about this in the next chapter (5.1.5)
5.1.5 Checking the correct direction and distance to the lake
When you have walked for a while and you would like to update the position in your Multi-Navigator
TM
just start it
by pressing
ON/OFF
. Wait for a few seconds until it shows POSITION in the LCD then press
COMPASS
and the
distance and direction to the lake is updated. Point in the correct direction, spot a landmark and repeat the procedure
in 5.1.4 and 5.1.5 until you reach the lake.
5.1.6 At the lake You did it!
Easy, wasn’t it? Before you go fishing it is a good idea to cancel the setting for navigating to the lake, since you have
found your way there and are now interested in finding your way back. Press
YES
when you are either in the
COMPASS or GPS main function and the first thing you see is GOTO WAYPOINT. Press down repeatedly until
CANCEL GOTO appears. Press
YES
and you are back in GPS main function but now with the distance and direction
towards ”HOME” (i.e. the car) shown in the LCD. Now you can switch off the Multi-Navigator
TM
by pressing and
holding the
ON/OFF
button and go fishing!
5.1.7 Finding your way back to the car
When you have finished fishing and you want to go back to the car, start the Multi-NavigatorTM by pressing
ON/
OFF.
Wait for it to calculate its position (POSITION will be shown). Press
COMPASS
and you will see BACK *HOME
* and the direction and distance. Point out the direction to travel in and start your trip back the same way as
described in 5.1.4 and 5.1.5 (Remember to hold the Multi-NavigatorTM horizontal when using the compass function
- check the bubble level.)
5.1.8 Other hints and tips
The previous example is a basic example of how the Multi-Navigator
TM
can be used. There are a lot of other things
you might want for your specific use. You can for example:
* check the current, min and max altitude in the ALTITUDE function
* check the barometric pressure and weather forecast in the BARO-function
* check the weather forecast (and temperature) when you wake up in the tent in the morning
* check the wind direction by pointing with the Multi-Navigator
TM
into the wind when in the COMPASS function
* store positions along the trip as waypoints in the WPT-function
* check the odometer to see how far you have travelled and which max speed you have travelled at
* connect a number of waypoints into a route in the ROUTE-function * create new waypoints by using the
Magnipointer
TM
* check your current position in the POSITION-function
* check your current rate of ascent or descent in the ALTITUDE-function
The Multi-Navigator
TM
features many functions that are not depending on GPS-reception. Remember that it is very
useful to turn off the GPS receiver (just press YES-YES when in the POSITION function) and use the other Multi-
Navigator
TM
functions such as compass, altimeter, barometer etc without draining the batteries by having the GPS
turned on all the time.
Remember the direct access to the magnetic compass - just press and hold COMPASS when the Multi-Navigator
TM
