UTM co-ordinates and the first thing we need to check is which UTM-zone the lake is in. The current zone is N33
and we measure in an easterly direction first. The lake is approx. 500 metres inside the ”kilometre-square” 663
(measured in an easterly direction). We note that the position of the lake is zone N33 (UTM zone 33 Northern
Hemisphere) and the Easting co-ordinate is E663500. Now we do the same but in a northern direction. The lake is
approx. 750 metres inside the ”kilometre-square” 6592 (measured in a northerly direction). Now we can complete
calculating the position of the lake with N6592750, which gives us:
Zone N33
E663500
N6592750.
To enter this into the Multi-Navigator
TM
we start it by pressing
ON/OFF
. The display shows a version No., tempera-
ture and the remaining battery capacity and after that it will start to search for satellites. As we do not need the GPS
receiver to work while we are planning our trip, we turn it off by pressing
YES
twice. (FIG. 011)
When that is done press WPT to open the function that handles everything that is connected with waypoints etc.
(FIG. 004)
Press
DOWN
repeatedly until you find NEW WAYPOINT. Press
YES
and you will open the mode in which you will
enter the co-ordinates for the waypoint you want to store. Because you have selected the UTM/UPS map system
the first thing you will have to enter is the Zone number. Change to N33 if that is not yet already suggested and
press
SET
. Now enter the easting co-ordinate digit by digit and when the last digit is entered continue to the
northing co-ordinate by pressing
RIGHT
so that the cursor enters the bottom row. Enter the northing co-ordinate
digit by digit and press
SET
when done. Now you can enter the waypoints altitude if you know it. When done press
SET
and you can enter the name of the waypoint. Enter the word ”LAKE” and then press
SET
. The waypoint is now
stored and you are asked if you would like to enter a new waypoint. Press
NO
and you will return to the GPS
navigation function.
Now turn off the power by holding down ON/OFF and take the car to the spot where the road ends.
5.1.2 How to store your ”* HOME *” position
At the end of the road, start the Multi-NavigatorTM by pressing
ON/OF
F for two seconds. Wait for the Multi-
NavigatorTM to calculate its position. When the position is calculated the POSITION page will be shown in the
LCD. (FIG. 044)
Now it is a good idea to store your ”* HOME *” position i.e. where you are right now, so that you can easily find
your way back to the car. Just use the One-button-GPS function by pressing and holding
WPT
(FIG.004). The text
STORING NEW HOME and a countdown timer appears. Hold
WPT
(FIG.004) down until text NEW HOME STORED
appears as confirmation that your current position is stored as new ”* HOME *” position that you want to return to
after the fishing trip. You will now automatically enter the GPS main function where the ”* HOME *” position is
already selected, as the destination to go to with distance etc shown on the display.
Tip!
If you need this position also after you have found your way back to it we recommend you to also store the
position as a waypoint. See 4.4.7.1
5.1.3 Now, let’s navigate to the lake!
Now we want to activate the ”LAKE” waypoint and that is done by pressing
YES
when in the GPS function. The
text GOTO WAYPOINT is displayed and since that is what you want to do press
YES
. Now the first available
waypoint is shown. If it is ”LAKE” press YES, if it is another one scroll
UP/DOWN
until you find the ”LAKE”
waypoint and then press
YES
. Now the bearing and distance as well as your course and speed is displayed in the
GPS navigation function. It is preferable to use the COMPASS function for checking the direction when standing
still or at low speeds. To do that press
COMPASS
and you will be able to point towards the ”LAKE” waypoint. Spot
a landmark in that direction, turn off the Multi-NavigatorTM by press and hold
ON/OFF
. Go for it!
