Technical Notes
The default setting for Composer security is Not enabled. This setting allows
any user to run Composer. You can choose to enable security later on, if
desired.
If you select Enabled during setup, you cannot disable the security later on.
A complete reinstallation is needed to reverse this selection.
To learn about how to set the other parameters in this window (not directly
related to Composer security), see the
MM8000 ICC (A6V10062413).
Composer users are defined in a list handled by the
Composer User Manager
application. In order to be enabled to run Composer, a user must be defined in
When Composer is started, the logged-in user is checked and compared to the
User Manager list: if the user is present in the list, then Composer opens;
otherwise an error message displays and Composer stops.
Composer users may or may not be included in the users defined for any given
project that will be enabled to operate the DMS8000 product.
4.2.1
Composer User Manager
The User Manager tool is a simple application that allows configuring privileges
[➙ 26] for the Windows users. Privileges include being able to:
Start Composer
Create new projects
Run configuration commands
Access the node information
The User Manager application can also associate each user to a security profile,
which defines the set of available commands, and to a visibility level, which
enables the access to a given set of Composer node properties.
The three security profiles are as follows:
Guest: guest users can open or restore a project, print, back-up, and download
it. However, they cannot modify the project configuration.
Standard: standard users have the same capability as guests, and they also
have the permission to modify projects. Instead, they are not allowed to use the
User Manager tool.
Administrator: administrators have full control on projects (as for the
Standard
profile) and also the permissions for using the User Manager tool.
The visibility level can be one of the following:
Standard: for each node, Composer shows the basic set of properties.
Advanced: the entire set of customisable properties is shown.
Debug: reserved for the software development department.
Do not select this
option.
We recommend using the following combinations:
- Field technicians dealing with backup/restore/download: Guest/Standard
- Project engineers configuring the system options: Standard/Advanced
- Security Administrators: Administrator/Advanced
The user who installed product CD is automatically added to the Composer list as
the main administrator. This user cannot be removed.
Note that user accounts defined in the Composer User Manager are
not added in
the Windows user list (they should already be configured in Windows).
