Self-locking gearboxes can be dispensed with by using the holding torque of the motor.
Duty cycle, variable
A load duty cycle defines the characteristics of the motor speed and the torque with respect
to time.

A load torque is specified for each time period. In addition to the load torque, the average
load moment of inertia and motor moment of inertia must be taken into account for
acceleration. A frictional torque that opposes the direction of motion can occur.
When calculating the load and/or accelerating torque to be provided by the motor, take
account of the gear ratio and gear efficiency.
Note
For duty cycles in the field weakening range, the calculation tool SIZER for SIEMENS Drives
must be used.
The following formulas can be used for duty cycles outside the field weakening range.
