3.1.4
Signal wiring
The following applies in common for signal wiring of field devices such as
temperature sensors, room devices, window switches, presence detectors, dew
point sensors or electrical buttons:
–
Use stranded, 2 or multiple core round cables, without screen (standard off-the-shelf
installation cable).
– Single wires or ribbon cables may not be used.
– Signal wiring may be laid together with power lines (AC 230 V).
They must be isolated from the power lines per regulations. Isolation must meet
PELV requirements.
– Signal wiring can
not be led in the same cable
as the power lines.
3.1.5
Additional notes for room devices
– Most room devices have a tool connection plug for easy connection of the tool
(room controllers are often hidden went mounted). The room devices must be
connect with 2 strands each for KNX
bus and PPS2 (4-strand, paired cable).
– We recommend wiring the KNX bus to room devices only where bus access with
a tool is actually needed. We do not recommend a general wiring of the KNX
bus to all room devices, since the open wiring may catch faults and increase the
total length of the bus cable (See Section 4.5.3).
– Cable type: 2-strand or 4-strand, paired, without a screen
(See Section 4.1)
– The PPS2 wire are interchangeable since polarity is not relevant.
– The KNX
bus wire must be connected with the proper polarity.
– The simple wiring length between controllers, or controller and room device must
be considered for the overall wiring length of the KNX bus.
