Sea Recovery Ultra Whisper Rev. A
SYMPTOM 1: Supply Power is applied to the Ultra Whisper System but the “Power” lamp at the
Touch Pad is not illuminated.
Confirm that 12 VDC is present at the main printed circuit board TB 1 12V + and -.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
o
Blown Fuse on the 12 VDC supply power (Alternating Current Systems Only)
o
Power Cable has a break and Power is not present at the System
o
Loose wire, check wires, refer to wiring diagram in section 8
o
Loose connector between Main Printed Circuit Board and Touch Pad
o
Damaged Touch Pad
o
Damaged Main Printed Circuit Board
SYMPTOM 2: The “Power” lamp at the Touch Pad is illuminated. When the Start Switch is pressed
the Feed Water Pump Lamp blinks once (illuminates for a fraction of a second) and
the Feed Pump does not Start.
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
When the Start switch was pressed, if the “System On” lamp at the Touch Pad blinked (illuminated for a
split second) and the Feed Pump did not start this is caused by high current drain from the Feed Pump
Electric Motor at the instant it receives power. Electric motors consume high current and require full
voltage in order to “excite” the windings within the motor allowing rotation of the armature. Once the
armature is rotating at full RPM the current drops to normal. High current drain when the Feed Pump
Electric Motor attempts to start is normal, and if the installation and supply power are correct, voltage will
hold and the System will start. However, if the power supply is weak or if the power wires are too thin
then this will cause voltage to drop resulting in the loss of power to the electronic circuit. This loss of
voltage or low voltage condition is the result of one or more of the following:
o
Low voltage from the source due to a weak source such as a low battery in need of charging, an
inadequate power supply such as an undersized inverter, low dock power, an undersized generator,
or undersized power wires.
o
Only one battery is supplying power to the System (12 or 24 VDC System) and the battery bank
current rating is not high enough to deliver adequate power at the instant the electric motor
attempts to start, or the Battery is weak or in need of charging.
o
Power wires from the source to the Ultra Whisper are of insufficient gauge (thickness) to deliver
the required current and voltage to the electric motor during its starting phase.
Determine the “weak link” in the power being supplied to the system and correct it.
SYMPTOM 3: The “Power lamp” at the Touch Pad is illuminated, yet when the Start Switch is pressed
NOTHING happens. The “Power” lamp at the Touch Pad is illuminated, but none of
the other lamps on the Touch Pad are illuminated, the “System On” lamp at the
Touch Pad did not blink when the Start Switch was pressed, and the Feed Pump
Motor did not start.
POSSIBLE CAUSE:
o
Loose wire, check wires using wiring diagram
o
Loose connector between Main Printed Circuit Board and Touch Pad
o
Damaged Touch Pad Start Switch
o
Damaged Main Printed Circuit Board
o
Damaged Feed Pump Contactor
o
Damaged Feed Pump Electric Motor
