Sampling Modes
The SBE 39
plus
-IM has four basic sampling modes for obtaining data:
•
Polled Sampling
•
Autonomous Sampling
•
Combo Sampling
•
Averaging Sampling
Commands can be used in various combinations and in one or more sampling
modes to provide a high degree of operating flexibility. Review the operation
of the sampling modes and the commands described in
Command Descriptions
before setting up your system.
Descriptions and examples of the sampling modes follow for a system with
two 39
plus
-IMs (IDs 01 and 02) on a mooring cable. Note that the
39
plus
-IM’s response to each command is not shown in the examples.
Polled Sampling
On command, the SBE 39
plus
-IM takes one sample of data and sends the data
to the remote SIM or IMM. Storing of data in the 39
plus
-IM’s FLASH
memory is dependent on the particular command used. It is not possible to
synchronize the data samples from each 39
plus
-IM in polled sampling.
Example: Polled Sampling
for mooring with two 39
plus
-IMs (user input in bold)
Send wakeup tone to all IM instruments. For all instruments in Group 0 (all instruments with an
integrated IMM are automatically in Group 0): Set current date and time to May 1, 2016 9 am,
initialize logging to overwrite previous data in memory, set up to send data in converted
decimal format and include temperature (°C) and pressure (dbar). After all parameters are
entered, verify setup for each 39
plus
-IM. Send power-off command to all IM instruments.
(Select
Connect
in SeatermIM’s Communications menu to connect and wake up all IM
instruments.)

Send wakeup tone to all IM instruments. Command each 39
plus
-IM to take a sample, and send
data to SIM/IMM. Send power-off command to all IM instruments.
