Scout Boats
3-1
Knowing the systems, controls and indicators on your boat is essential for
safe and proper operation. The systems, controls and indicators shown in
this section may be optional or slightly different than those on your boat.
SYSTEMS
Regularly inspect and maintain all systems to prevent
unexpected hazards associated with worn or faulty
components. Always replace system components and
hardware with marine grade parts, not automotive
components.
Ventilation
The ventilation system is designed to remove and prevent the accumulation
of explosive vapors in the hull and engine compartment. Therefore, proper
ventilation is extremely important to boat safety.
Powered systems consist of a blower which “pulls” air out from the engine
compartment and bilge area; one or more vents allow fresh air in. Natural
systems have both intake and exhaust vents; as the boat moves, air is
forced into the intake and escapes through the exhaust vents.
