During transport, the pump may only be lifted
using the handle provided for this purpose and
must be stored vertically before use.
If the pump delivered is to be installed at a later date, store it in a
dry place and protect it against blows and the elements (humidity,
frost, etc. ).
4. PRODUCT AND ACCESSORIES
4.1 Description
When operating, the UCA / UCB / UVO submersible motor pumps
must be submerged up to the upper edge of the motor (min. level in
the tank). It is driven by a cast iron, pressurised water-tight, three-
phase current motor (EN-GJL-250).
The pump’s casing and the impeller are made from cast iron (EN-
GJL-250). After passing through a central opening (DN 80, DN 100),
the fluid transported penetrates the the pump from the bottom and
is released laterally via the discharge pipe's union (DN 80 ou DN 100).
The pumps may be fitted with different
types of impeller
:
• The closed
single-channel impeller
is shaped like a single spiral,
with a large clearance. It is used for black water containing solid,
faecal matter and for muddy water.
• The closed
two-channel impeller
differs from the single-channel
impeller in its two symmetrically mounted spirals.
• The
VORTEX impeller
has short, radially aligned vanes. This impeller
is suitable for the discharging of gaseous liquids or black water
containing long fibred waste.
The motor is hermetically separated from the pump by 2
seals
.
Motor side
: shaft sealing ring or mechanical seal.
Fluid side
: mechanical seal.
So that the seal on the motor side is also lubricated and cooled, the
space separating the two seals is filled with a precisely defined
quantity of white oil when the pump is assembled (
see § 7
).
A klixon protects the pump from overheating.
For fixed installation, the pump is secured to a base (discharge side),
or for mobile installation, it is connected to a flexible pipe on the
discharge side.
4.2 Items supplied
- Pump with 15 m of connecting cable
(special cable lengths available on request).
- Assembly and commissioning instructions.
4.3 Accessories (optional)
- Control unit for the operating of 1 or 2 pumps.
- Level indicator / float switch.
- Accessories for mobile submerged installation.
- Accessories for fixed submerged installation.
Consult the catalogue for a more detailed list.
5. INSTALLATION / MOUNTING
The UCA / UCB / UVO series pumps are suitable for the following
types of installation :
• Fixed submerged installation (FIG. 1)
• Mobile submerged installation (FIG. 2)
- The pumping station must be set up in accordance with
professional good practice.
- In case of open air installation, the pipes, valves, check valves,
electrical controls, and so on, must be installed in a sheltered
place and protected against frost.
- The sump must be large enough to limit the number of pump start-
ups.
- In the case of mobile installation, the opening will be connected
via a flexible piping elbow of a diameter greater than the pump’s
discharge diameter.
- A check valve appropriate to the fluid transported must be
placed on each discharge pipe, together with a full flow port
isolation valve.
- The check valves and valves should preferably be mounted on the
upper part of the discharge line.
- Use pipes whose diameter is at least the same as the pump’s
discharge opening.
5.1 Assembly
- The pump must be installed in a location that is sheltered from
frost.
- The sump must not contain any large waste (e.g. rubble) before
installation and commissioning.
Never handle or suspend the machine by its electric
cable. Lower the machine using a chain or rope
attached to the handle.
- Check that the pump is stable so that it doesn’t fall.
- The pump must be handled at the place of installation using lifting
equipment.
- For the pump / installation to operate at an optimum level, only
SALMSON accessories may be used.
- The minimum ground clearance between the pump and the
ground must be obeyed.
- The water level (
min) must not fall below the upper edge of the
motor. Set the water level control according to this minimum level.
- Make sure that there is no risk of the pump running dry. To prevent
this risk, use level sensors or float switches from the SALMSON
accessory range.
5.1.1 Mobile submerged installation (FIG. 2)
1
Tripod.
2
Elbow union for the direct connecting of the flexible pipe /
assembly of the fixed coupling.
3
Fixed coupling for assembly to the elbow union.
4
Flexible coupling.
5
Flexible discharge pipe for direct connection to the elbow union
and connection to the flexible coupling.
6
Chain.
- To guarantee the pump’s minimum ground clearance, assemble
the tripod before lowering the pump.
Make sure that there is no risk of the pump falling
or moving.
Make sure that the pipe cannot be pulled out or run over
involuntarily or in an uncontrolled way. Be careful to avoid
bending the flexible pipe !
5.1.2 Fixed submerged installation (FIG. 1)
6
Chain.
7

device and assembly accessories.
9
Stop valve with assembly accessories.
10
Elbow with assembly accessories.
11
Assembly accessories.
12
Guide rail Ø 32.
13
Bleed hole to be drilled.
- Pipe unions mounted on the discharge side not supplied by
SALMSON.
- Assemble and position the base with elbow in the bottom of the
sump using floor mounting accessories.
- Connect the discharge line using the appropriate accessories to
the base and the elbow.
- To secure the pump, attach the extruded seal to the pump’s
discharge flange.
- Attach the guide rails (to be supplied by the customer) to the
base.
