4 Communication Ports
4.1 RJ45 Twisted-Pair Data Ports
The RX1000 series may have several 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports that allow
connection to standard CAT-5 UTP or STP (Unshielded or Shielded Twisted Pair)
cable with RJ45 male connectors. All 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports on the RX1000
series feature auto-negotiating, auto-polarity, and auto-crossover functions. On the
RX1000P and RX1100P, these ports support PoE, providing up to 15.4W per port at
a nominal 48VDC, auto-sensing and auto-power off when cables are disconnected.
Figure 19 shows the RJ45 receptacle pin configuration and Table 6 describes the pin
assignment.

Although transient suppression circuitry is present on all RJ45 ports, they cannot
protect the RJ45 port from severe high power, high amplitude transients that can
potentially damage the RX1000 and its link partners. In general, RuggedCom
strongly recommends limiting connections used by the RJ45 ports to those that are
less than 3m in length, or limited to environments that are protected from such
transients.
