Thermal installation
General guidelines
● Fireplaces placed in a chimney system must always be thermally insulated
with regard to the building walls, floors and ceilings.
● Chimney systems installed in buildings with inflammable walls, floors or ceil-
ings, must be clad with thermal insulation that meets the strictest requirements
(see table).
● Only insulation materials meeting the quality standards given below should be
used and must be approved by the relevant authorities (such as VKF in Swit-
zerland or DIBT in Germany).
●
Thermal resistance
of the thermal insulation must be at least
700° C
● Thermal insulating materials that are in contact with circulating hot air (on all
the K-type fireplaces) must also be fitted with an
abrasion resistant
lining
(e.g. metal plates) with permanent
thermal resistance
.
● To prevent unpleasant odours during fireplace operation, only use thermal
insulation containing low-volatile bonding agents. Information on the composi-
tion of thermal insulation maybe obtained from the manufacturers.
