Flue gas evacuation/Chimney flue
General guidelines
● Avoid chimney flues larger than those listed in the table, as these could cause
the following issues:
- the flue gases cool too fast, which might cause condensation in the
chimney flue.
- insufficient chimney flue draft
● When wood fuel is used, the smoke exhaust system must be designed and
certified in consequence.
● The chimney flue must never be supported by the fireplace. The chimney flue
must be
self-supporting
and separated from the fireplace.
● When possible, a chimney flue of
L < 4 m
in length should not be used. To
obtain a stable draft for a chimney flue of length ≤ 4 m, an extractor fan can
be installed.
● If the fitter estimates that a flue of smaller section will satisfy requirements,
then any such installation is at his own risk and responsibility.
● New chimney flues of Ø25 or 30 cm, with a useful length of
L ≥
8 m
or over,
and with good thermal insulation, can have the section reduced by a maxi-
mum of 5 cm.
