A telescoping antenna, as shown below, may be directly connected to the antenna
mount via a PL-259 to SMA adapter, included with the antenna.

This is typically a ¼ wave whip which is omnidirectional but has no well-defined ground
plane. Its gain at any particular frequency is dependent on its extended length. The
optimal values may be calculated using this Whip Antenna Length and Frequency
Calculator:

Thus, the 6.7 to 30 inch antenna, above has a range of about 187 MHz to 838 MHz but
will provide signal well below and above those values but with lower gain.
