Selecting the Exposure Compensation
Your camera adjusts the exposure of each scene automatically. However, if the subject is
very dark, or very bright, you may override the camera automatic exposure determination
to make the subject brighter or darker. This is called EV compensation.
The EV compensation of the camera can be adjusted from -2.0EV to +2.0EV in 0.3EV steps.
1. Rotate the mode dial to [
] manual record mode.
2. Adjust the exposure with the / button.
3. Compose your image, press the shutter button down
halfway and then fully down.
Effective Subjects and Set Values
Positive (+) Compensation
Copying of printed text (black characters on white paper)
Backlit portraits
Very bright scenes (such as snowfields) and highly reflective subjects
Shots made up predominantly of sky.
Negative (-) Compensation
Spot lighted subjects, particularly against dark backgrounds
Imaging of printed text (white characters on black paper)
Scenes with low reflectivity, such as shots of green or dark foliage.
When the [
M
] manual mode is set, the / button sets the shutter speed, and exposure
compensation cannot be set.
