the ¸HMC8012. You can specify all parameters and
assign a fixed IP address. You can also assign a dynamic IP
address with the activated DHCP function. Please contact
your IT management to configure the settings properly. If
the device has an IP address, it can be accessed via web
browser at this IP since the Ethernet interface includes an
integrated web server. Enter the IP address in the browser’s
address bar (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). This will open a win-
dow including the instrument type and the serial number.
9.3.3 LXI
LAN eXtensions for Instrumentation (LXI) is an instrumen-
tation platform for measuring instruments and test systems
that is based on standard Ethernet technology. LXI is Ope-
ration in a Network intended to be the LAN-based succes-
sor to GPIB, combining the advantages of Ethernet
with the simplicity and familiarity of GPIB.

If DHCP is used and the system cannot assign an IP address to the
¸HMC8012 (for instance, if no Ethernet cable is connected or
the network does not support DHCP), it may take up to three min-
utes until a timeout allows the interface to be configured again.
The ¸HMC8012 is LXI certified and supports the ver -
sion 1.4 (LXI Core 2011). Advanced functions are not sup-
ported. IVI (Interchangeable Virtual Instrument) instrument
drivers are a central component for the LXI certification. So
called IVI.net drivers are made available that are based on
the .NET framework 4 by Microsoft. LabView and LabWin-
dows/CVI drivers, created on the basis of LabWindows/CVI
2012, are also available.
9.3.4 Webserver
The Ethernet interface offers a web server, which can be
used with a web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer). The fol-
lowing functions are supported by the Webserver:

PC and instrument have to be connected to the same network.
