1.7 Configuring the control PC for a GSM connection
Diagrams of the configuration window and the corresponding descriptions are based on Microsoft
Windows XP professional operating system. The configuration in MS Windows 2000 varies slightly in
different places. However, basically the specific settings can be made in the same way.
For the following configuration it is assumed that at least one, but preferably two modems are set up on
the control PC and connected to the phone lines.
For two or more modems, you can use one for the outgoing connections to the UMS100/120 if the
operator is actively connected. Any other modems can then be available to receive UMS100/120
generated and automatically transmitted alarms for incoming connections.

1.7.1 Outgoing connections (to the UMS100/120)
Install a separate outgoing dial-up networking using the
Assistant for New Connections
for each
UMS100/120 connected via GSM.
•
Open the
Network Connections
folder using the MS Windows desktop (start button or system
control).

Select
Create New Connection
with the mouse at
Network Tasks
. The Assistant opens.
a) Click on <Next> in the first window and open the second window.
b) Select
Setting up a connection with the network at the office
and click on <Next> to open
the third window.
c) In the third window, select
Dial-up Networking
and click on <Next> to open the next window.
d) (available only if more than one modem is installed, else continue with
step e
)
From the proposed (installed)
modems
in this window, select the one that will be used for the
outgoing connection and click <Next> to open the next window.
e) In this window, assign a
name
for the connection, such as the station name. Click on <Next> to
open the next window.
f) In this window, enter the
telephone number
for data connections which is assigned to the SIM
card in the UMS100/120. Click on <Next> to open the next window.
g) In this window select “… no smart card” and click on <Next> to open the next window.
h) In the following window click on <Complete> to
finalize
the definition. A connection to the
desktop is not necessary and is not selected.
