CAUTION
Hydraulic fluid can be an irritant. Prolonged and
frequent contact may cause redness and irritation.
• Avoid contact with eyes.
• Avoid frequent prolonged skin contact.
• Wash hands thoroughly after contact.
• Use disposable cloths and discard when soiled.
• Store under cover away from heat and sources
of ignition.
• To check for leaks, turn the wheel to port until hard over,
continue to turn the wheel to build up pressure. A squeal
from the helm unit indicates that the pressure relief
valve is lifting and is normal. Continue to turn the wheel
so maintaining pressure, whilst checking the port helm
fitting and the starboard side of the steering cylinder
and its hoses for leaks.
• Reverse the procedure by turning the wheel to starboard
to check the starboard side of the helm unit and the port
side of the steering cylinder and its associated hoses.
• Check the hoses connecting the helm unit to the
steering cylinder for any sign of chafing or cracking to
the outer sheath. If any deterioration is evident, replace
the damaged hose as soon as possible. The hoses must
be properly secured to minimise movement.
• Check the movement of the steering cylinder with
the emergency by-pass valve open. Push the outboard
motors from lock to lock and feel for any undue
stiffness.
• Check the movement of the steering cylinder with the
emergency by-pass valve closed. Attempt to push the
outboard motors from lock to lock and observe any
excess movement at the slider plate.
